Peter Finger was born in Germany about 1730 and came to this country when a small child with his parents. The family first stopped in Pennsylvania for a short while, then moved south with many other Germans. Peter's family settled in Lincoln County. The first mention in public records is in a land deed of date May 23, 1778 for 270 acres of land purchase on Leepers Creek. This became the Finger Family homestead and the land was passed onto Peter as he got older. The homestead lies in Ironton Township 7 miles east of Lincolnton where the old Sherrils Ford Road crosses over Leepers Creek. The property lay on both sides of Leepers Creek. During the struggle for American independence, Peter was a whig and served with the patriot side. Peter was married twice, his first wife(name unknown to me at this time) had 7 children; Catherine, Elizabeth, Susannah, Barbara, Margaret, Jacob, and John. Peter's second wife was Barbara Reinhardt, a sister of Christian Reinhardt, Sr., who lived on the battle ground of Ramour's Mill. By this union, Peter had 2 sons; Daniel and Henry. Peter died and is buried on the homestead property, the exact place on the homestead or if a marker even exists is unknown to me at this time. Barbara survived Peter for many years living on the homestead and was buried in the old white church grave yard in Lincolnton upon her death. Please contact me if you have any other information on anyone mentioned here.
