Betty L. (Coates) Fenchel

PATTERSON HEIGHTS

Betty L. (Coates) Fenchel, 88, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Reformed Presbyterian Home in Pittsburgh, PA. Originally from Ellwood City, PA, she lived in Patterson Heights, Beaver Falls, for 57 years before moving into the RP Home in Pittsburgh in 2009. She was the loving wife of Robert N. Fenchel. They were married in Biloxi, MS, on April 1, 1943 and would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on April 1, 2012.

Born January 18, 1924 in Ellwood City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Ida (Wiley) Coates. She was a graduate of Ellwood City High School.

She spent many years as a loving mother and wife before beginning work as a secretary at Geneva College. She worked in the Admissions Department and later in the Student Center, retiring in 1983 after 19 years of faithful service to students and staff.

She was an active member of the First Reformed Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls. She also served with the Patterson Heights Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.

In addition to her husband Robert, she is survived by a son, David N. Fenchel and his wife Erna, Harleysville, PA, and a daughter, Sharyn E. McBurney and her husband, Donald R., Beaver Falls. She was the loving grandmother of five grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Schreier, Timothy (Jess) Fenchel, Amanda (Dave) Gotwals, Ryan (Joy) McBurney, and Lauren (Johnathan) Neiswinger. She is survived by nine great-grandchildren. One of her greatest loves was to spend time reading scripture and in faithful prayer for her family.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Lady Dot Butler, Blanche Cozad, Norean MacMurdo and Jane Markus; a brother, Jack Coates, and a great-granddaughter, Abigail McBurney.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Reformed Presbyterian Home, 2344 Perrysville Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, where friends may meet with the family from 1 to 2 p.m.

Private entombment will be held at Sylvania Hills Mausoleum, Rochester, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Reformed Presbyterian Church of Beaver Falls, Geneva College or the Reformed Presbyterian Home.
