He was the son of Nikolaus Dörr and Maria Anna Sitz.

Johann Franz Dörr arrived in New Orleans, at the age of nineteen, on June 13, 1853 on the ship "Hermann" from Bremen, Germany.

Married Mary Ann Grohmann on May 30, 1859 at the Catholic Mission in Saginaw City. It was recorded at St. Joseph RC Church in Bay City.

Farmed in Bridgeport Twp. before moving to Saginaw City in 1899.

Member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.

Father of 13.

According to his obituary, a brother and a sister had immigrated to Michigan prior to his arrival. Their names are not in the obituary and no records have been found verifying who they are.
