Hazel “Nellie” Fox, 88, of Casey, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 1996 at Heartland Manor Nursing Home, Casey.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Markwell Funeral Home, Casey, with the Rev. Mark Kaley officiating. Burial will be in Casey-Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born September 18, 1907 at Casey to Edgar Allen Poe and Cora Davis Poe. She was married March 12, 1927 at Marshall to Lawrence V. Fox.

She was a former seamstress for 50 years and co-owner for 23 years of Fox Grocery Store in Casey. She was a 50-year member of the Casey United Methodist Church. She was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the United Methodist Women’s Club.

Surviving are her husband, L. V. (Lawrence) Fox of Casey; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Paul Hurt Sr. of Mattoon; sisters, Frances Poe of Casey and Stella Willey of Sutherland, La.; grandson, Paul Hurt Jr. of Mattoon; great-grandsons, Andy Hurt and Timmy Hurt, both of Mattoon; and great-granddaughter, Lora Hurt of Mattoon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two children, and one sister.
