Clearfield Progress, Monday, June 10, 1918

Mrs. Kate Rougeux, wife of August Rougeux, one of Covington township's best known citizens, died at the family home in "Germany," about two miles from Frenchville, on Saturday evening, June 8, 1918, aged about 62 years.

The deceased had been a sufferer from heart trouble for several years and was in a precarious condition during a major portion of the past few months.

Mrs. Rougeux was the daughter of the late Serdon N. and Nancy Coudriet and lived her entire life in the community where she passed away. She was married to August Rougeux in 1811 and to this union was born thirteen children all of whom with her husband, survive.

Mrs. Rougeux was the ideal loving wife and mother, whose every thought was for her home and loved ones, and her death, the first break in the large family circle, is a heart-crushing blow. She was a life-long, devoted member of the Catholic church and passed away fortified with all the rites of that church.

The immediate family surviving her are her husband, August Rougeux and the following sons and daughters: Basil and Edgar of Covington township; Clement of Boardman; Peter, of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Lawrence N. and Maurice, of the U.S. Army; Mrs. Edward P. Shade and Mrs. John Daley, of Clearfield; Mrs. C.A. Fontenoy, of Karthaus; Mrs. Vincent Di Palmi, of Curwensville; Misses Nannie and Sadie, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Lulu, at home. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Lewis V., of Clearfield; Peter, of LeContes Mills; Mrs Joachim Lachat and mrs. Jule Bamat, of Frenchville; Mrs. John B. Rougeux of Girard township, and Mrs. J.D. Connelly, of Clearfield.

Her funeral will be held at the Frenchville Catholic church Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock. A requiem high mass will be clebrated by Rev. Father M.J. Renehan. Interment in the cemetery connected with the church.

The funeral of Mrs. Katherine Rougeux was held from the Frenchville Catholic church yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Rev. Father M.J. Renehan celebrated a requiem high mass and an exceptionally large concourse of people were present to pay the last sad tribute to a noble woman. Father Renehan paid eloquent tribute to the deceased as a practical christian wife and mother.

Mrs. Rougeux was the mother of fifteen children and also raised a step-son and step-daughter. Fifteen of these seventeen children were present at the funeral, the two absent sons being at the service of their country and unable to get home. Six stalwart sons acted as pallbearers.

The immediate family surviving her are her husband, August Rougeux and the following sons and daughters: Basil and Edgar of Covington township; Clement, of Boardman; Peter, of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Lawrence N. and Maurice, of the U.S. Army; Jerome, of Coudley; Mrs. Edward P. Shade and Mrs. John Daley, of Clearfield; Mrs. C.A. Fontenoy, of Karthaus; Mrs. Vincent DiPalmi, of Curwensville; Misses Nannie and Sadie, of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; Pearl and Lulu, at home; Mrs. N.F.
