Archie Boatwright, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2005. Mr. Boatwright was born May 2, 1918, in Alma, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie, his second wife, Ella, two sisters, Merle and Connie, and a brother, Jack.
A gentle soul, daddy will always be remembered for his kindness and consideration toward everyone. Always a man of his word, a firm handshake, and a smile were his trademarks. His ability to fix things, his green thumb for plants, and always wanting to help, are memories we will cherish. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He worked as an electronic mechanic in the Calibration Laboratory on the Naval Air Station, earning commendations for his dedication and hard work, until he retired in 1978. He was a long-standing member of the Jacksonville Jewish Center where he attended Thursday afternoon minyan with his son, Mitchell, for many years. He was a loving and devoted husband and caregiver to his dear Minnie and Ella, and a sparkling example of goodness and gentleness for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two sisters, Willa Mae Tapley (Brunswick, Georgia), Retta Young (Ocilla, Georgia), sisters-in-law Frances Boatwright (Manchester, Georgia), Delores Sodden (Josh) of Boynton Beach, Beatrice Steckel (Hillsborough Beach); his four children, Cynthia Disher, Harriet Kaplan (Sheldon), Mitchell Boatwright (Jeanette), Cathy Wilensky (Dan); grandchildren, Shelley Brewer (Chris), Jonathan Weintraub (Kim), Lee Kaplan, Kevin Kaplan, Tiffany Adams (Jason), Life Wilensky, Mari Wilensky, Tess Wilensky, Jess Wilensky, Robin Smedberg (Roger); great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah, Ember, Jonathan, Chelsea, Jillian, William, John-Paul; nieces, Eileen Liebman (Jerry), Diane Bercaw (Jack), Leona McCullough (Sam), Betty Kutner, and many more loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
We will miss you, daddy, and we will always cherish your love of family, your good name, and your gentle nature. We will love you always. Funeral services will be held graveside on Friday (today), May 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in the Jacksonville Jewish Center, New Center Cemetery, with Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner officiating.
