WILLIAM NOFTSGER

Funeral services for William (Bill) Franklin Noftsger, 94, of Knoxville and formerly of Melcher, who died Thursday, July 25, 20002 at West Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, were held Monday, July 29, at Williams Funeral Home. Dale Blanshan officiated at the services.
Interment was at Gosport cemetery in rural Marion County. Casketbearers were Bob Bingham, Mike Damon, Rodney Peterson, John Braida, Larry Noftsger and Gene Sacco. Honorary bearers were Darwin Damon, Frosty Harrington, Ralph Lang, Keith Stull and Bud Thomas.
Bill was born on June 25, 1908, in Marion County, the son of Dora Samantha Gee and Kleber Noftsger, Sr. He married Fern Irene Bingham on Nov. 17, 1928 in Knoxville. To this union two sons were born.
Bill was a successful farmer in the Melcher area for many years. He took pride in his yard, crops and black Angus cattle. He retired from farming and moved to Knoxville in the late 1970s. In later years, he enjoyed fishing and playing pool with friends and relatives, especially the grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fern; and an infant son, Marvin. Bill was the last of nine children including three brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by a son, Gary and his wife, Barbara, of Ankeny; two granddaughters, Pamela Scarpino of Liberty, Mo. and Kathy Leon of Champaign, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Emily and Elizabeth Scarpino and Anthony and Samantha Leon.
Memorials may be made to the West Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund.
