George William Carpenter, crossed over to Heaven on August 30, 2021. George lived his life of 91 years well up until the end and he went home peacefully to joining those that preceded him. George's life was built on honesty, fair play, and integrity.

George was born in Lubbock, Texas on March 13, 1930, to William Hurley Carpenter and Minnie Ira Scott Carpenter. Hurley then married Magdalen Dederick (Mimi) when George was 12.

George graduated from Lubbock High and attended Texas Tech University. He joined the Army in 1951 and was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. George married his high school sweetheart, Bettye Armstrong on July 17th, 1951, and their daughter was born a year later.

After George got out of the Army he moved his family from Hopkinsville, Kentucky back to Lubbock where his two sons were born. George started and worked for Southwest Tile. He then started working for Gridwall with his uncle and moved his family to California. They lived there for four years and then moved back to Lubbock to work with his father-in-law, Embree Armstrong for his company, Armstrong Supply, which specialized in heating and air conditioning. While working there he started C & L Mechanical, the plumbing side of the business, with his brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Lowery. Then after Mr. Armstrong's death in 1980, he merged both companies to form Armstrong Mechanical. During his time with Armstrong, George mentored and helped many succeed in the heating, air conditioning and plumbing business. He also built great relationships with contractors, engineers, suppliers, and all those that he came in contact with.

George and Bettye were married just shy of 55 years. Their marriage gave them three children. He met Linda Boerner, both being widowed, and their friendship became love. Then on March 3rd, 2008, they married and have been able to have a great life and spend the last 13 years together.

George was a member of First Baptist Church and the Downtown Men's Bible Class. George was also very civic minded and served 11 years on the City Council and served as Mayor Pro Tem. He also served on several City boards, the Electric Utility Board, the Human Relations Commission and the Audit and Investment Committee. He also served on the South Plains Association of Governments, the Boys Club, the International Cultural Center, and the Hospice of Lubbock board. George was appointed by Governor Mark White to serve on the State's Private Sector Prison Industry Oversight Committee and then by Governor George Bush to the Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Licensing Advisor Board.

He is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Kay; his wife, Bettye; and his son, Craig.

Survivors include his wife Linda, his daughter Karyn Green and husband David, his son Chris and wife Beth and his grandchildren Luke Green and wife Cheryl, Daniel Green and his wife Brooke, Kailey Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter and his wife Morgan and Kendal Carpenter, Ty Houtchens, Ashley Boerner, Victoria Boerner, Caroline Boerner, his great grandchildren, Boley Green, Kip Green, Jack Tucker, Jaylan Wilson and soon to be Remington Carpenter. George is also blessed to have welcomed many others into our family. His first new son was Mohammad "Moh" Soheili, then came the families of Matthew, Julia and James Jaing and Shawn, Jenny, Timothy, and Jonathan Chao. We are a blessed family.

George's family are so grateful to Calessa Brusewitz, Laura Saenz, Ray and Delfina Garza that have helped take care of him and Linda these past several years. They are an important part of our family.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening September 1, 2021, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Lake Ridge Chapel. The celebration of life memorial service will be at 2:00pm Thursday, September 2, 2021, at First Baptist Church.
