Charles Hatfield of Herrin Dies

Charles W. Hatfield, 63, of Rt. 1, Herrin, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday in Herrin Hospital.

Mr. Hatfield died of an apparent heart attack. Williamson County Coroner Paul Litton said there will be an inquiry.

Mr. Hatfield was a retired miner. He was a member of United Mine Workers Local 1265 and Herrin West Monroe Street Apostolic Church. He was born Jan. 25, 1902, in Vandalia, the son of David and Magdalena Summers Hatfield.

He leaves his wife Eva Lee; daughters, Mrs. Ruby Fogle of Rt. 1, Herrin, Mrs. Helen Humphrey and Mrs. Barbara Hammonds, both of Herrin, and Mrs. Carol Jent of Rt. 1, Carterville; sons, Earl and Gary Lee, both of Rt. 1, Herrin, Gene of Herrin and Jack of Johnston City;

Sisters, Mrs. Eva Fair, Mrs. Lydia Fair and Mrs. Alice Sexton, all of Wood River; a brother, Oscar of Rochester; a half-sister, Mrs. Lula Dornieden of Springfield; nine step-children; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in West Monroe Street Apostolic Church. Rev. J. E. Gray, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Friends may call at Johnson's Funeral Home in Herrin.
