Landon Harold "Bing" Carter passed away March 10, 2012 at the Meadowbrook Rehab facility, Gardner. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Friday, March 16, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, 324 E Shawnee, Gardner. Burial will follow at Gardner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 8:00 pm Thursday, March 15, 2012, also at the church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be given to the Kansas Auctioneers Assoc. Condolences may be left atwww.brucefuneralhome.com He was born January 4th, 1917 in a farmhouse near Blairstown, Johnson County, MO, to Homer E. and Jenney Mae Carter. Later the family moved to a farm near Green Ridge, Missouri where he spent his youth. Bing was a well known auctioneer having conducted nearly 5000 auctions in 36 states and four countries. He was the past President of the Kansas Auctioneers Association and a board member of the National Auctioneers Association. He was also a member of the Missouri Auctioneers Association. He was inducted into the Kansas and Missouri Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame and was inducted into the National Auctioneer Association Hall of Fame in 1991. He also was inducted into the Kansas Fair Association Hall of Fame after spending many years as the Secretary of the Johnson County Fair Board. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gardner. Bing was also a member of the Gardner Lions Club. Bing was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Brown Carter in 1969, and his second wife, Maxine Jennings Carter in 1998. In addition he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his son Ron Carter and wife Barbara of Olathe, Kansas, daughter Sandra Carter of Gardner, stepdaughter Linda Jo Baker of Olathe, stepson Richard Jennings of McClouth, Kansas, stepson Fred Jennings of Reno, Nevada., and his brother James B. Carter of Green Ridge, Missouri. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Bing thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He traveled all over the world and loved to tell stories of his auctions and travels. He will be missed by so many who loved him. The family wishes to thank Vintage Park of Gardner, Olathe Medical Center, Meadowbrook Rehab, and Vitas Hospice for their loving care in his final months and days.
