Henry emigrated to Sodus from Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada with his parents when he was a young boy. He was the father of 12 children; Henry Jr., Egbert, Joseph, Isabella, Charles Theodore, Matilda (Mattie), David F., Eugene W., Frederic, Frances, Frances M., and John. He was a boat builder on Sodus Bay. Some of his sons were also builders, as well as ships captains on the Great Lakes.
