Winford was born on December 17, 1925 and enjoyed a long and productive life that touched and benefited all that had the honor of calling him friend or family. His sudden passing, due to complications from a fall at home, has left a hole in our hearts that we can only begin to fill with our loving memories of him.
Winford served his country honorably in the Navy and Air Force, seeing active duty in WWII and Korea and was deservedly proud of his contribution. After his military service, he studied and became a successful jeweler, watchmaker, and gemologist and continued to repair watches and jewelry for family and friends throughout his life. His education and expertise eventually led him to Tinker AFB where he performed work on missile guidance systems until his retirement in 1979.
Winford was a devout and active member of Southern Hills Baptist Church where his volunteer service was well known. His faith played a very large role in his life and his many friends knew that he would be available if they ever needed assistance. This attitude of serving led him to work with TRIAD, a coalition of the Sheriff and Police Department and Senior Citizens to help raise awareness of safety and health issues concerning seniors. He also volunteered for work at the Oklahoma State Fair every year in the Chaplain's Corner providing assistance to the law enforcement officers on duty there, and also was a member of RSVP providing meals, transportation, clothing, and toys for underprivileged children.
Winford was preceded in death by Norma, his beloved wife of 53 years and mother to his sons Gary and Don which survive him. He is also survived by his loving wife Evelyn Brooks, his sister Virgie Cavin, brother Bill Anglin, granddaughters, Logan Anglin and Colby Badiyan, and Brenda, Don's wife, who was always a special friend to Winford.
