Henry Carl George Rau was born Nov. 28, 1858 in Mequon, Ozaukee County, and died on Wed, Dec 31 at 6:00 a.m. at his farm home. At the age of 18 Mr. Rau went to North Prairie, Waukesha County, where he engaged in the trade of wagon-maker. On the 28th of November he was united in marriage to Miss Louise Turner of North Prairie. Later the happy couple moved to Sullivan, Jefferson County, and after a short stay there, they came to the village of Dorchester. In 1909 Mr. Rau moved out on a farm in the Town of Holton where he remained till the day of his death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Peace Evangelical Church with Rev. J.R. Kalwitz officiating. Henry Rau was among those who came here when Dorchester was young and did his bit in making this a community one would enjoy living in. And even after he moved into the country he was always interested in Dorchester and her people. He leaves a host of friends who will miss his fine friendship and mourn with the family his loss. The deceased leaves behind his wife; two brothers, William of the Town of Mayville and Louis of Cedarburg, Wisc; five sons, John of Dorchester, William of Portland, Oregon, Charles of Trout Creek, Michigan and Henry and Willard both of the Town of Holton and one daughter living in Mitchellville, Maryland. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren.
