James Thomas Carrender, Sr., 72, Kansas City, MO, (formerly of Lexington, MO) died Saturday, April 13, 1996, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Walker-Nadler Chapel, Lexington; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lexington.

Friends may call 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, at Walker-Nadler Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church or the Lions Eye Foundation.

Mr. Carrender was born January 24, 1924, in Kansas City, KS. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps. He worked for Mattingly Stores, Inc. for 28 years, retiring July 1, 1978, as Executive Vice President and Comptroller. He was owner and operator of the Sears Catalog Store in Lexington from 1978-1993. He was a member of the Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, Kansas City. He was a former member of the Lexington Lions Club and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. He had served on the Board of Directors of Commerce Bank of Lexington, MO. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Campbell Carrender, September 1, 1990. He is survived by his wife, Kay Carrender, of the home; son, Tom Carrender, Macon, MO; daughter, Robin Carrender, Lexington, MO; sister, Laura Baird, Amarillo, TX; stepson, Don Smith, North Kansas City, MO; stepdaughter, Nancy Mudd, Guthrie, OK; and four stepgrandchildren.
