NEWSPAPER CLIPPING: "BELOVED OAKLAND PIONEER PASSES: Mrs. Mary Henton, known for Benevolent Deeds, Dies, Aged 84 Years" (no date; presumed to be Oakland Tribune, about April 5, 1913.)
Mrs. Mary Henton, widow of the late Griffith Henton, passed away at 6:30 o'clock last night at the home of her grandaughter, Mrs. Wallace Spaulding, 3050 Clark Street. Mr. and Mrs. Henton arrived in Oakland in July, 1854. They were married and lived in Pennsylvania, their native state, until coming to California, where she has resided since. Mr. Henton passed away 14 years ago. The couple were known throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties for their benevolent hearts, casting seeds of kindness and love to all in want of a true friend. Mrs. Henton was 84 and 5 months old. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Beeby and Mrs. C.A. Scoville; one sister, Mrs. James Beeby; five grandchildren -- Mrs. J.E. Squire, Mrs. W. Spaulding, R.J. Beeby, Griffith Beeby and Edward Griffith Stricklen, professor of harmony at the State University; also 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Henton's heart was in the advancement of Oakland and the Progressive Party, casting her first and last vote for Roosevelt and against annexation to San Francisco.
The services will be held from her late home on Monday at 2 p.m. The interment will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Gravesite Details

She is buried next to her husband as "Mary Atkinson Henton" - perhaps a misspelling of her mother's maiden name
