Yesterday afternoon Mrs. Stricklen, near Temescal, succumbed to the dread diptheria. Her little daughter, aged 3 years, died of the same disease last Sunday morning. The mother was sick in bed when her child was buried and felt the parting very keenly. Tuesday, and until she died, her friends had every hope for her recovery, but yesterday the trecherous disease took her. Mrs. Stricklen was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henton of Telegraph Avenue, near Temescal. She was born in Erie County, Pa., on the 17th of September, 1852. Her parents came to Oakland when she was a few years old, and she has lived here ever since. She leaves a husband, a little boy 6 years old, father and mother and two sisters, besides innumerable friends to mourn her loss. The news of her death has put Temescal in a gloom, and the afflicted family and relatives have the deepest sympathy of all. She was buried today at 2 o'clock.
