Elizabeth (Bright) Ward was born April 25, 1831 in Mississippi, the daughter of Charles Pate Bright and Mary Bennett. She died January 8, 1901 in Hill County, Texas. She is buried in the Peoria Cemetery, in Peoria, Hill County, Texas. Elizabeth married Henry Carlton Ward on June 17, 1847 in Coosa County, Alabama and they had 12 children: Charles, Sarah Ann, Martha H, Margaret, Henry, Greenbury, Benjamin W, Francis Marion, William M, Samuel Sam, James and Frank Ward.

The following is only one from the list of the Hill County Old Settlers who joined the association to date with their address and the year in which they came to Texas. Included was Henry Carlton Ward in 1869. (Elizabeth's husband, Henry Carlton Ward was one of the first settlers in the Whitney area).
