Obituary of Mrs. A.A. Fry

Mary Byrd Goodall was born at Carthage, Ill., Feb. 29, 1836, and died at her home in Birmingham, June 22, 1912 (sic. should be June 21, 1912 as per her death record and headstone inscription), after an illness of about six weeks, caused by a fall, and complications.

December 1, 1857 she was united in marriage to Abia Allen Fry. Of this union five children were born, one dying in infancy, four of them Mrs. C.C. Walker, Oklahoma City, OK., Chas. S. of Lansing, Mich., Mrs. W.G. Skinner of Garden City, Kansas, Albert A. Fry of St. Paul., Minn. all of whom were present and assisted in caring for their mother through her last illness, and saw that all her last wishes were complied with.

Sister Fry has been a member of the Methodist church for the past forty years. None knew her but to love her. Her's was a life that exemplified Christ's teachings. The world is richer today because she has lived in it, and heaven itself will be adorned by such lovely characters. She died the death of the righteous, with that perfect peace that comes from a well founded trust in God.

Besides her husband and children who mourn her departure, she leaves five sisters -- Mrs. H. Huffman, now of San Bernardino, Ca., Mrs. D.S. Huber and Miss Cynthia Goodall of Pella, Iowa, Mrs. A.K. Bechtel of Monta Vista, Colorado, Mrs. T.T. Beswick of Stockport, all of whom but Mrs. Huffman were with her in her last hours. There are hosts of old-time friends and neighbors who sorrow because she is no more among us. Surely a noble wife, kind and affectionate mother, and a helpful neighbor has gone to her reward.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Crowther, her pastor, having charge of the services, and interment being in the Birmingham cemetery.
Daughter of William B. Goodall and Lucy Bridges Winn Goodall.
