Obituary

The funeral services of the late Mrs. Lucy B. Goodall occured [sic] March 9, 1893 at 2 p.m. at the M.E. church conducted, by Rev. A. W. Haines. Her pastor, Rev. Mr. Reoves, of Barnes City, was expected, but circumstances prevented his attendance. The following is a brief sketch of the deceased:

Mrs. Lucy B. Goodall was born in Glasgow, Kentucky, Dec., 16, 1811, so at the time of her death, March 7th, 1893, she was 81 years, 2 months and 21 days old. Her maiden name was Lucy B. Winn, and was united in marriage to Wm. B. Goodall, July 26, 1832 with whom she removed to Illinois in the year 1834, and from Illinois to Iowa in 1836, locating on the prairie, six miles north of Keosauqua, and from there to Fairfield in the year 1850, at which place her husband died in 1852, leaving a family of six girls and five boys, of whom there remains living six daughters and on son, as follows: Mrs. Mary B. Fry, Mrs. V. R. Huffman Birmingham; Mrs. S. A. Huber, Pella; Dr. W. W. Goodall, Chicago; Miss Cynthia Goodall, Pella; Mrs. I. L. Bechtel, Colorado; Mrs. Kate Beswick, Des Moines.

Mrs. Goodall united with the Old School Baptists some time during the year 1885 and remained a consistant [sic] and faithful member of said church up to the time of her death--in belief and practice, however she has been in sympathy with the baptist church almost her entire life, and her strict adherence to the faith of her choice was always a prominent feature in her character, and nothing could shake her confidence in the teachings of her childhood days--kindness of hear, substantial and cordial hospitality was a leading feature of her life, and she was honored and respected by all with whom she came in contact, strict integrity and conscientious ideas of christian virtue and honesty ruling every action of her long and useful life, so that she goes to her long home, leaving nothing but the most favorable impressions upon the minds of those she leaves behind--"Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, for their works do follow them" can be reverently and confidently said of the subject of this sketch, and no more appropriate or fitting language can be applied to her than that quoted above.
