Thomas Ingalls was born March 1, 1787, the son of Jonathan and Deborah (Sherwin) Ingalls. Thomas married. 1st 1815, Polly Stone, born 1788 dau. of Capt. Ebenezer Stone of Townsend, MA she died 1816, He. married. 2nd 1818, Mrs. Betsy (Stone) Richardson b. 1790, a sister of his 1st wife. She died Jun. 9, 1822, and he married. 3rd 1823 Sophia Shurtleff, dau. of Asahel and Sarah (Dewey) Shurtleff.

Thomas was engaged in the merchant trade in Rindge for many years and was in partnership at several times with Joel Raymond and with Eliphalet Sawtell and for many years at the "Ingalls Store" where the sign board bearing only the word "Store" announced the business carried on within. For many years he was a justice of the peace, he was a member of the 1st board of school committee and served several years in this capacity, he also served on the board of selectmen. In 1832 and 1833 he represented Rindge in the state Legislature. For 26 years he was chosen Rindge Town Clerk and held this office until his death in 1863.

Thomas and Sophia had four children

Thomas's son in law, the Hon. Rodney Wallace of Fitchburg, MA, husband of Sophia (Ingalls) Wallace, had built and donated to the town of Rindge on the former Ingalls family property the "Ingalls Memorial Library"
