Legend goes that Irene was a very tough woman of pure Scottish blood. She certainly appears to have managed through great hardship, loosing her first husband at the age of 46 and still managing to raise four children.
The records indicate that after James died she married a man with the last name Outwater, who would also pass away prematurely. She then married Charles Mason and eventually can be found living with her daughter as a widow.
