William McCraw, date of birth: Sep 1843, PA
Wife: Mary J. McCraw, date of birth: Jan 1868, Missouri
Brother-in-law: William Harris, Railroad Brakeman

William's father and mother immigrated to the United States from Scotland in the 1840's. They lived in New York City and raised William there. His father Peter was a Tailor.

When the Civil War broke out he volunteered and immediately found action in several prominent battles. William was wounded in the head while serving as a bugler for his regiment.

After the war he settled down with his new wife Harriet Levers. He can be found in the Census living with his wife and children in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. He is reported as a locomotive engineer in the 1870 census.

Unfortunately, after giving birth to their forth child, Harriet died. Without a wife to keep the home, William moved into his mother-in-law's house with three of his children. The impact of war would influence the lives of their families for generations.

He eventually moved to Missouri where he remarried. He can be found with his second wife in the 1900 census, still reported as a locomotive engineer. This is where he remains today.

It is said that he completely lost his mind in his last few years.
