He had been in failing health for the past year. Mr. Roach was a retired agent and telegraph operator for the Monon Railroad, having served in that capacity 46 years. He was a member of the Bedford First United Methodist Church.
He was born May 31, 1888, in Martin County, the son of William Isaac and Nora Gore Roach. He was twice married, first to Mabel C. Gipson in 1912. She died in 1946. He married Orpha Trueblood Sept. 4, 1965, and she survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Russell and Ben Roach, both of Bedford; three step-children, Mrs. Naomi Baker of Hammond, Ind., Mrs. Garland (Ruth Carolyn) Sutch of Palm Springs, Calif., and Richard Dean Trueblood of San Jose, Calif., and three step-grandchildren. One son, Donovan Roach, and a brother, Merlin Roach, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. William Day officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
