Frances Dugger Spain

Mrs. Frances Dugger Spain, 79, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the home of a son in Piney Flats. She was the daughter of the late Herve and Earlene Franklin Carver and was born in Carter County where she lived for most of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William "Dee" Dugger and George W. Spain; a brother, Herve Carver, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Tom Shell.

Mrs. Spain was a lifetime member of Pearce's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was an avid reader. Playing word games and solving puzzles on her computer were two of her other favorite past times. She loved to knit scarves and give them to friends, her loved ones and those in need.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Tester and her husband, Dickie "Gator", Hampton; Bertha Tina Shell, Jonesborough; two sons, William "Bill" Dugger and his wife, Betty "Susie", Hampton; Roy Dugger and his wife, Janice, Piney Flats; six grandchildren, Ron Merritt, Scott Dugger, Bobby Dugger, Monica Bowers, Andy Dugger and Josh Dugger; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Christine Cook, Hampton; a brother, Norman Carver and his wife, Wendy, Greenville, SC; an uncle, Ozro Franklin and his family, Smithville, TN; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Carver and family, Elizabethton; Barbara Gage and family, Gray; special people in her life, Noletta Andrews, Betty Lunceford, Mark Payne, and all the neighbors of the Smith families. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Spain will be conducted on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. John Stevens officiating. Music will be under the direction of her nieces and nephews, R.V. and Dean, Faye, Teresa and Doralee. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday prior to the service and at the home at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, February 22, at 11:00 AM in the Whitehead Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, granddaughters and Brookie Potter and Mark Payne. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
