Mrs. Maria Garrett Passed Away Today
Deceased was Nearly Ninety Years Old -- a Native of England but Lived in Bountiful Since 1866.
Grandma Garrett, widow of the late William Garrett, passed away at her home in Bountiful today of old age. She had been ill about a year and a half, being bedfast the greater part of that time.
The deceased would have been 90 years old on the 2nd of next February. She was born at Willenhall, Warwickshire, England.
In her native town, on April 4, 1840, she was married to her late husband, William Garrett, who died in 1887.
She is survived by ten children, two having preceded her to the great beyond. The deceased are, Henry Garrett and Mrs. Jasper Perkins. The living children are, W.A. Garrett, James Garrett and George Garrett of Nephi, Juab County; Mrs. Elizabeth Reece, Mrs. Daniel K. Davis and Mrs. Jane Jacobson of Bountiful; Mrs. D.E. Fackrell of Randolph and Mrs. Hyrum Smith of Georgetown, Idaho. She has 93 grandchildren and 145 great grandchildren.
She became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints prior to the year 1866, the year they emigrated to Utah, arriving in this valley September 28th. After spending the winter in Salt Lake City, they moved to Bountiful the following spring and in 1870 they moved to Nephi, Juab County, where they resided until 1874, when they returned to Bountiful, where she lived up to the time of her demise.
The deceased is highly respected by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held in the East Bountiful Tabernacle, Sunday at 2 P.M.
