Amil Henry Light
Amil Henry Light, son of John and Elizabeth Light, was born January 2, 1885 on the farm northwest of Yates Center, and departed this life on April 3, 1971, at the Allen County Hospital, Iola, at the age of 86 years, three months and one day.
He received the greater part of his education at Askren school, attended one year at Emporia Teachers College after which he taught one year at Askren in 1907 and 1908 and two years at Nikkletown school.
On February 28, 1912 he was united in marriage to Irma Mulsow and they established their home in the Finney community. To this union was born three daughters, Mildred Opperman, Fredonia, Hilda Light and Virginia Louderbaugh of Yates Center.
In 1917, he moved to Yates Center and was employed at The State Exchange Bank or a period of one year, after which he returned to farming and moved back to the place of his birth on Turkey Creek. The remainder o his life was spent on the farm homesteaded by his father.
At an early age he was converted and attended the Finney Methodist Church and at the time of his death was a member of the United Methodist Church at Turkey Creek.
He was a kind and patient person, a loving father and enjoyed life to the fullest. His home, family and farming were his life interests.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, his parents, his five half-brothers, Ed, John, and Gus Klingenberg, Will and Ed Light and one half-sister, Bertha Burlison.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his three daughters and a brother, Fred Light of Yates Center, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services in his memory were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, from the Turkey Creek Church with Rev. David Mack officiating. Soloist Paul Brilke, accompanied by Mrs. Brilke sang "Near The Cross" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord."
Casketbearers were Enoch Light, Ray Arnold, Richard Mulsow, Lawrence Klingenberg, Kenneth Steele and Hadley Stranghoner. Interment in Askren Cemetery.
