Josephine Mathy was born Anne Josephine Simon on February 28, 1859 in Tourinnes-la-Grosse, Brabant Wallon, Belgium to Leopold Antoine Simon and Anne Therese Vendredi. She came to America in the 1870's with her parents and her brother Jean Baptiste Simon (John). On January 26, 1878 she married Augustin Joseph Mathy, the son of Pierre Joseph Mathy and Marie Therese Joseph Evrard in Depere, Brown County, Wisconsin. In 1880 they were living in Depere with her Parents and her brother, together, they had two children Vital and John Mathy. In 1900 they lived in Menominee, Michigan. They also raised their nephew John Simon, the son of John B. Simon and Anna Strutz who came to live with them in 1905 after the deaths of his parents. Josephine Mathy passed away in Menominee, Michigan on January 18, 1934.
