HEBER CITY, UT- My beloved wife, our special mother, grandmother and great- grand- mother, Janet Mair Bates Evans, at the age of 80, passed away peacefully at her home on June 4, 2001 after an extended illness.She was born Oct. 10, 1920 in Heber City, Utah, to George Allen Mair and Annie Bennett Barnes, the fifth child of twelve. Her mother died when she was in the 8th grade. In the 9th grade she married her sweetheart Lawrence A. Bates, and together helped her Dad raise her siblings. Lawrence preceded her in death January 24, 1980. She married Al Evans on September 2, 1983. They've enjoyed traveling to Yuma, AZ. the past 18 winters, and have made many friends. Janet enjoyed crocheting and donated many items to the ward, friends, family and neighbors. She has won many blue ribbons from the county and state fairs with her beautiful handwork. She enjoyed cooking and canning, reading and traveling. Her family was her greatest treasure.Her survivors include husband Al; daughter DeAnn (Don) Heroff of Salt Lake City; son Butch (Janet) Bates of Cripple Creek, CO; daughter-in-law Ann (Blake) Spencer of Lindon; three step-children, Billy L. (Maria) Evans of Lompoc, CA; Fred L. (Mary Lynn) Evans of Sandy; and Peggy (Mark) Archuleta of Draper; two brothers, Willis Mair of Vernal; and Billie (Ada) Mair of Midway; Aunt Thelma Mair of Heber City; 20 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband Lawrence Bates; son George Lawrence "Larry" Bates; three sisters, Madie, Dorthea, and Georgia; and six brothers, Jack, Alex, Dean, Allen, Jimmy, and Dick.Funeral services will be held Friday, June 8th, 2001- 1 p.m. in the Heber LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 150 West 200 North, Heber City. Friends may call on Thursday, June 7th from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 North Main Street, Heber City, and on Friday from 11:45-12:45 p.m. prior to the services at the LDS Chapel. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
