Eleanor Scott Guckes was the daughter of Arthur Hoyt Scott & Edith (Wilder) Scott. She married Philip Exton Guckes on June 19, 1926 in Moylan-Rose Valley, PA in her parent's garden. As a child, she had measles & mastoid which affected her hearing. She attended Mary Lyons School in Swarthmore, but did not graduate. However, she was an accomplished reader, well traveled and considered educated in her own right. She was active in her community, a patron of the PenBay hospital & Camden, Maine Public Library. In her spare time, she transcribed books into Braille for the blind.

While her husband was serving in the Navy during WWI, she became active in the Red Cross Motor Corps in Wayne, PA and drove an ambulance.

Eleanor was a very generous person and well loved by her family.
