He was born on December 12, 1944 in Dodgeville to his parents William and Gladys (Wurgler) Sies. Nolan attended the Forward Grade School and graduated from Mount Horeb High School. Nolan served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968 as an amphibian operator. On May 12, 1984 he was united in marriage to the former Beth Jelle at Daleyville. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in New Glarus. Nolan had two seasons that he enjoyed; they were football (the Chicago Bears) and NASCAR racing.
Nolan is survived by his wife, Beth Sies of New Glarus; a son, Jeff Sies of New Glarus; three daughters, Wendy (Scott) Zahler of Mount Horeb, Billi Jo (Ron) Mandel of Juda, and Hannah (Jake) Sies of New Glarus; five grandchildren, Kelsi, Kyle, Natasha, Nicole and Harley Jo; three brothers, Robert (Linda) Sies of Belleville, Gary (Sue) Sies of Blue Mounds, and Edward (Kathy) Sies of Mount Horeb. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Sharon Christian.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at the Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church, 506 - 12th Avenue, New Glarus, with the Reverend Gene Talley officiating. Relatives and friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 - 6th Avenue, New Glarus. A memorial fund has been established.
