William Edward Sies, 65, Mount Horeb, died Wednesday, November 27, 1991 at home. He was born December 7, 1925 in Moscow Township, Iowa County, to Sol and Jennie (Larson) Sies. He married the former Gladys Wurgler on September 13, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa. Bill lived with his wife in the Barneveld area then moved to Blue Mounds, and to Forward in 1946. He worked in construction for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Blanchardville Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed; and Local 464 Laborer's Union in Madison. Bill died after an eight month battle with cancer.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Sies, Mount Horeb; five children Nolan (Beth) Sies, New Glarus, Sharon (Larry) Christian and Edward (Kathy) Sies, all of Mount Horeb, Robert (Linda) Sies, Belleville and Gary (Susan) Sies, Blue Mounds; a sister, Elaine Glendenning, Darlington; two step-brothers, Hjalmer (Amy) Duffy, Blanchardville and James (Pat) Hubbard, Ridgeway; sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lennis Sies and Norman Sies.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at the Blanchardville Lutheran Church, Blanchardville. Rev. Jeff Miller of the Pecatonica Lutheran Parish officiated with burial in Graceland Cemetery. The Saether Funeral Home, Blanchardville, was in charge of arrangements.
