Dr. Edwin Marcus Demarest, D.O., came to Huntingdon in 1929 from Hanover and had been engaged in active practice in Huntingdon since that time up until his death.

He was a graduate of the Kirksville School of Osteopathy ~ Kirksville, Missouri ~ in 1915 and had started his practice in Westminster, Maryland. For a brief time Dr. Demarest had maintained a practice in Lewistown, Pennsylvania.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathy Association.

Born December 13, 1887 in Delaware, Ohio, and he was a son of Marcus E. and Sarah Jane (Neff) Demarest. He was united in marriage to Ruby Ethel Keiser on December 25, 1908 in Delaware, Ohio.

He had been a member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon and a Huntingdon resident since 1929.

Besides his medical practice, Dr. Demarest enjoyed art ~ drawing and painting many pieces of artwork (one of which can be seen in one of the photos included on this memorial and is now in my possession), some of which won ribbons at the local county fairs.

Huntingdon Osteopath Dies At 79

A well know Huntington osteopath, Dr. Edwin M. Demarest of Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon R.R. 2, died Wednesday, April 19, 1967, at 12:45 p.m. in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He was 79.

He had been a patient of the hospital since Friday, April 7, when he was admitted due to a leg injury he had sustained in a fall at his home.

Dr. Demarest was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by his parents (Marcus E. Demarest d. 1911; Sarah {Neff} Demarest d. 1941) and his two brothers: Barton E. Demarest (d. 1883) and Frederick B. Demarest (d. 1959).

At the time of his death in 1967 he was survived by his wife Ruby (d. 1982) as well as his three daughters: Mrs. (C. Lex) Dorothy Jane {Demarest} Speck of Mill Creek (d. 2007); Mrs. (Wilbur) Jeannette Ruby {Demarest} Rumberger of Huntingdon; and Mrs. (Harold) Eleanore Marie {Demarest} Hawn of Norfolk, Virginia who moved back to Huntingdon in 1989 where she passed away in October of 2009. There are six grandchildren still surviving.
