R. Jeannette Rumberger, 100, a resident of Huntingdon since 1929, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 21, 2017, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.

Born Nov. 11, 1916, in Westminster, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edwin and Ruby (Keiser) Demarest. She was united in marriage to Wilbur Rumberger April 17, 1938, in Huntingdon. Mr. Rumberger preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1988, after 50 years of marriage.

Mrs. Rumberger is survived by four children, William Rumberger of Huntingdon, Edwin Rumberger and wife, Pat, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, James Rumberger and wife, Bea, of Peoria, Illinois, and Ruby Stecca and husband, David, of Winfield, Illinois; six grandchildren, Heather Rumberger, Adora (Rumberger) Lockaby, James Rumberger, Virginia (Rumberger) Churchill, Hannah (Rumberger) Erickson and Sherry (Stecca) Knospe; and eight greatgrandchildren, Ashley, Zach, Zelda, Lily, Bailey, Cole, Clinton and Emily.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy (Demarest) Speck Aug. 5, 2007, and Eleanore (Demarest) Hawn Oct. 20, 2009. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Rumberger was a charter member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Huntingdon, where she taught Sunday school for several years, was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and a participant in the Thursday visitation program.

She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Huntingdon, where she also served as a Board Member.

Mrs. Rumberger attended Hanover and Huntingdon public schools and was a 1934 graduate of Huntingdon High School.

She was first employed by the J.C. Penn e y Company, and then by J.C. Blair Memorial Hosp ital, Huntingdon, as a recep- tionist for nine and one-half years. Subsequently, Mrs. Rumberger was hired by the Huntingdon County Courthouse, Huntingdon, in the Prothonotary’s Office as a deputy and retired in 1978 after 13 years of service.

Mrs. Rumberger had a passion for art and enjoyed ceramics, crochet, knitting, going to art shows and attending the Juniata College Artist Series. She also loved going camping and fishing with her husband. Mrs. Rumberger will be remembered by her family as being their “biggest fan,” especially when it came to vocal and instrumental ensembles at the church.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Coleman officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, May 23, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Rumberger may be made to the Calvary Christian Academy, 300 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
