Aniello "Neal" Russo was a first-generation U.S. American. Following his graduation from Farrell High School, he attended the University of Pittsburgh. During World War II, he served in 434th fighter squadron, part of the 479th fighter group, at Wattisham Airfield in England. After the war, he was a sportswriter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, covering Cardinals baseball and boxing for decades. Neal passed away on March 6, 1996. He is buried at New Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.
