Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company E, 2d West Virginia Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for action on April 8, 1865 at Appomattox, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of the Washington Artillery (C.S.A.)."
