On January 19, 2012, God dispatched an angel to bring servant, Sister Adelle Freeman home. Sister Freeman was born on September 16, 1912 to the late Alex and Ella Ward Phifer in Strong, AR in the Ward Chapel Community. Sister Freeman was married to Mr. Hugh Freeman and to this union one son was born and she named him Percell Freeman, Sr. Sister Freeman's parents, husband, her only son, four brothers, Grover, Gordon, Garland and Burton Phifer and four sisters, Etta Phifer, Media Phifer Howell, Julia Phifer Daniels and Alene Phifer Mitchell all preceded her in death.
Sister Freeman gave her life to Christ at an early age in the Ward Chapel Community located in Strong, AR. After moving to Crossett in November of 1937, Sister Freeman succeeded as a business owner of rental property, rooming and boarding houses, selling fish baits and pecans. She demonstrated an active lifestyle as she loved to engage in various recreational activities such as fishing, gardening, cooking and raising animals. Sister Freeman then united with Allen Temple CME Church. She was known as the "Mother of the Church", Vice-President of the Mattie E. Coleman Foundation, a member of the Missionary Society and an Usher until her health begin to fail. She was the ninth child nine.
She leaves to cherish her memory forever, three grandsons, Percell Freeman Jr. of Crossett, AR, Patrick Williams of Perris, CA and James Miller (Marsha) of Warren, AR; one granddaughter, Dorothy Miller of Dallas, TX; five nieces, Evelyn Ogwin (Wardell), Rose Mary Daniels, both of Crossett, AR, Lue Ella Benton and Hazel Mae Howell, both of Strong, AR and Kerry S. Palmer of El Dorado, AR. She also leaves to cherish five great-grandchildren; great nieces and nephews; her Allen Temple family and a host of other friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Ruby Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at Ward Chapel Church Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, AR. (www.jonesservice.com)
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Jones Funeral Home.
