WORLD WAR II

Earl, of Mauriceville,passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after a short illness.

He had been a resident of Mauriceville for the past fourteen years.

He served in the Coast Guard during WWII from 1942 to 1945. After his stay in the military, he came home and returned to his job with Gulf States Utilities. He worked for Gulf States Utilities now Entergy, for forty three years. He was one of the key personnel in the initial start-up of the Sabine power plant in Bridge City. He retired from Gulf States in 1984.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Post 10351, in Hemphill, Texas and was founder and long standing volunteer of the Fairmont Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Catherine Garner and his sister, Grace McClellan.

Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Hattie Lee Garner; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Ben Travis; daughter and her friend, Sandra Arthur and Bob Beard; sisters, Bernice Wiggers and Catherine Neal; brothers, Bobby Garner, John Edgar Garner, and Jerry Garner; grandson, Steven Key, John Key, Lowell Thompson, and Lloyd Thompson; four great grandchildren; and his loyal pet, Schotzy.
