McAlester native and retired coal miner Sam A. Mitchell died Saturday in a local nursing home. He was 75. Mitchell was born in McAlester on May 30, 1903, and lived here his entire life. The coal miner was a member of the McAlester Church of Christ. He married Carrie Perry on Nov. 29, 1922, also in McAlester. Mitchell was preceded in death by a son, Allen Mitchell, and two daughters, Lola Beshear and Helen Mitchell. Survivors include Mrs. Mitchell of the home, 519 West Harrison; one daughter, Viola Helms, McAlester; five granddaughters; one grandson; six great grandchildren and two brothers, Charley of Fontana, Calif., and Roy of Lawton. Funeral services are scheduled in McAlester's Church of Christ Monday at 2 p.m., Bob Sanders officiating. Interment will be at North McAlester Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Leonard Martin, Cy Lalli, Earl Beshear, Claude Tilman and Paul Giaudrone. Active pallbearers are Garland Brannon, Roy Brannon, Bill Verner, Ross Selman, Gary Dismuke and Bill Anderson.
