She was the daughter of Sam Allen and Carrie Bell (Perry) Mitchell. She joined the "B" and Grand Church of Christ when she was 14 years old. She attended school at Flowery Mound and married Paul McCoy Helms on November 5, 1955 in McAlester, OK. She was a fantastic mother and grandmother. She loved her Church Family and going to church. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook and spend time with her family. She was member of the "C" and Tyler Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Paul of the home; daughters, Pauletta James and husband Scott of Hartshorne, OK, Loretta England and husband Jim of Bugtussle, OK and Carletta Reece and husband Roy of McAlester, OK; grandchildren: Letta Guyer and husband Ryan of Shady Grove, OK, Melinda Miller and husband Jonathan of Ft. Bragg, NC, John England and wife Lindsay of Ada, OK, Melissa Standridge and husband Ransey of Wilburton, OK, and Steven Reece and Samantha Reece both of McAlester; great grandchildren: Colton and Michael Mann, Andrew Guyer, Ashton Miller and Joslyn Standridge; niece, Earlene Davenport and husband Jim of Quinton; nephew, Lloyd Beshears and wife Marie of Shady Point, OK; sister-in-law, Pearlene Cathey and husband Harold of Indianola, OK; brother-in-law, Alvin Helms and wife Wilma of Pampa, TX; and Aunt Myrtle Perry of McAlester, OK and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and other family and friends. Viola is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Carrie Mitchell; sisters, Lola Beshears and Helen Mitchell; brother, Allen Mitchell; and great granddaughter, Christeen Walton. The Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at the "C" and Tyler Church of Christ, McAlester, OK with Mr. Nathan Battey and Mr. John England officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, McAlester, Oklahoma.
