Frances' father was absent most of her life so she was raised by her mother and grandparents. She was fondly nicknamed "Skookums" which is German for sweet cookie. The Gregorius family was well-off and Frances received a good educated, finishing High School and Preparatory School. Because they had household help and she was an only child, she didn't learn the practical skills of cooking, housekeeping and child raising. Fortunately the man she would marry knew a lot about those things, having grown up in a large poor farm family, so he kindly taught her what she would need to know.
Frances married Franklin Claude Coberly in Salina, Kansas on June 12, 1921.
The Salina Evening Journal, Tuesday June 14, 1921 reported their wedding:
"Mr. F. C. Coberly and Miss Frances Hepner were married Sunday afternoon at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Frieda Hepner, 523 West Presacott, at 12.30 o'clock. The immediate families witnessed the ceremony which was performed by the Rev. U. B. Brubaker, Pastor of the First United Brethren Church. The wedding march from Lohengrin was played by Mrs. Brubaker. The bride was dressed in white silk chiffon. They were unattended, and the ring ceremony was used. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Coberly will leave next week on a trip to Chapman, and from there they will go to different points in Iowa, where they will visit relatives of the groom. Upon their return they will make their home with the bride's mother."
Francis and Franklin Claude and their growing family, eventually made their way to Los Angeles, California where they built their home on top of Mount Washington and raised six children:
Franklin Claude Jr (b. 24 February 1922 in Salina, Kansas)
George Edward (b. 20 July 1923 in Salina, Kansas)
Howard Elmer ( b. 16 Sept. 1924 in Huntington Park, California)
Elroy Clark (b. 5 January 1926 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa)
Beulah Waneta Pearl (7 April 1931 in Montebello, California)
Donald Merlin (b. 26 July 1932 in Arkansas City, Kansas)
Frances was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and she and her husband enjoyed rock and gem hunting and collecting.
