Howard Coberly had a good, long and adventurous life. He was a thinker, a planner and an explorer. He worked most of his career as a civilian Aeronautical Engineer for the US Government at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. He served in the US Navy during World War II as a Sonar Man in an Anti-Submarine Warfare Group, stationed in the Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean and the South Pacific. He was a designer and after applying that in his work with missiles and aircraft, he used those skills to design his off-the-grid home using natural energy, wood from local trees, and architectural ideas that he had studied on his travels.

Howard had a big curiosity about things and a lot of practical skill. He loved to travel the world exploring different cultures. He wrote books and stories, rode a motorcycle, enjoyed cooking, baking and eating good food. He could fix anything that was broken, and spent a lot of time with his sons working on engines of all kinds. He liked to read and have good conversations. And, he enjoyed telling stories about his childhood, growing up with four brothers and one sister, moving around a lot as his father looked for work during the depression years. Howard was a private man, gracious and easy to like. He was a very good listener and could offer wise advice: never the kind that gave an answer, but the kind that got one thinking on a path to find their own answer.

Howard has four children with Shirley Jean (Quick) Roddie: Howard Dennis born 16 September 1944; Jerome Leslie born 11 February 1948; Cynthia Lynn born 6 May 1949; Crystal Annette born 7 June 1960. And, he has 13 grandchildren. He later married Norma Irene Hollon and they shared many years together.

Howard's ashes were scattered in a beautiful location on the land in Oregon that he loved. And also, a memorial plaque was placed for him in the churchyard of Mäntsälä Finland where his daughter lives and he loved to visit.

Howard Coberly is missed by his family, friends and animal friends.
