Pierre's who was in the French Navy is said to be one of the French Soldiers in the American Revolution. He is said to have been a part of Washington's "life guard." Another source gave his burial place as Sterling Valley Cemetery. After Pierre's death, Mary went to live with their son Jasper in Hannibal, Osewgo Co. NY. The following verse was composed by Mary and is inscribed on her tombsone.
"My children dear, I pray draw near
and listen while I tell
Without free grace your dwelling place

Taken but paraphrased & drastically shortened from Hallie Arden DeMass Sweeting's book "Pierre Dumas, His Life and His Descendants, 1756 to 1986." Transcribed by Mary Briggs
