After Pierre's death, Mary went to live with their son Jasper in Hannibal, Osewgo Co. NY. The following verse was composed by Mary and is inscribed on her tombsone.

"My children dear, I pray draw near
and listen while I tell
Without free grace your dwelling place
will be a burning hell."
