Son of Archibald Hinson and Clara Smith Buchan. James married Clara Webb on June 1, 1943.

MULLINS - James Robertson Buchan, 45, died in a Conway hospital early Monday morning. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m Tuesday from the Mullins Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery.

Mr. Buchan was born in Marion County, a son of the late A. H. and Clara Smith Buchan. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the board of deacons of the church. He was president of A. H. Buchan Tobacco Company and was affiliated with Gallaher Ltd of England and Northern Ireland. He was a lieutenant commander in the US Navy during World War II, having served in the European and Pacific theaters. He was president of the Mullins Tobacco Board of Trade.

Mr. Buchan is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Webb Buchan; four daughters, Betsy Buchan of Charlotte, N.C., Susan Buchan, Mary Buchan, Catherine Buchan, all of the home; two brothers, J. Edward Buchan and E. Smith Buchan, both of Mullins; and one sister, Mrs. W. R. (Clara) Creighton of Mullins.
