Arvelle Haynie was a very hard worker and loved music. In his later years he built an outdoor stage below the dam behind his house in Webster Parish. He held several Bluegrass festivals one of which legendary DJ, Frank Page attended. On Labor Day Weekend 1980 he held a rock and roll festival featuring our Hinton Family band. The morning of the festival while preparing for the show Uncle Arvelle had a heart attack and died. The show went on with dampened spirits and money was collected to cover expenses for him. A very sad farewell to a very nice man.
On a lighter note, Uncle Arvelle had a strange anomaly, he had two thumbs on each hand. (Polydactyly) Something that always fascinated me as a child.
