Born in New York City, daughter of the late John C. B. Orth and Marguerite (Schaefer) Orth, she had lived in Scarsdale, NY, attended local schools and graduated in 1941 from Mount Holyoke College and has lived in Granby for the past 56 years.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Granby, the Granby Civic Club, one of the founding members of the Granby Tennis Club, a member of the Granby Library Assoc. and a library volunteer. Peggy was also a member of the Lost Acres Volunteer Fire Dept. Women Auxiliary, worked for many years on the Granby Community Fund, and a member of the Roaring Brook Nature Center. She was a Board member of the former Granby Public Health Nursing Assoc.
She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Ruthie Holton of Granby; two granddaughters, Megan M. Holton and Erin R. Holton, both of Granby. She was predeceased by a brother, John C. B. Orth, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 219 North Granby Road, Granby, with the Rev. Bridget Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Granby Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church Memorial Fund or the Granby Library Assoc., 15 North Granby Rd., Granby or the Granby Ambulance Assoc., P.O. Box 617, Granby, CT 06035. Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, Granby, has care of arrangements.
