GALVESTON — Diamond Stephen Athanasiou was born August 26, 1915, in Galveston, Texas, to

Stephen and Fotini Ralle Athanasiou. He passed away on September 10, 2006, at the University of Texas Medical Center Branch ACE Unit, after leading a full and active life.

Diamond graduated from Ball High School in 1933 and joined the United States Coast Guard. Upon his honorable discharge from service, he went to work at Monsanto. After a few years there, he joined his brothers Pete, Johnny, and Riley in operating the Seabreeze Cafe Dining and Dance restaurant. After several years of serving the public at Seabreeze, the brothers opened the luxurious Rickshaw Room, which featured the first all-electric kitchen in Texas.

When the Rickshaw closed, Diamond opened the Dragon Club, catering to a select clientele of
friends and acquaintances he and his brothers had developed through 20 years of business.

Diamond retired in the 1980s and began managing the family real estate holdings. Diamond married Norma Jones Meyer in 1969 and began a loving relationship with his soul
mate that lasted 30 years until 1999, when Norma passed away.

The couple was actively involved in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Community. Diamond served on the board of directors and was also involved in the Greek Festival for 30 years. He was the champion every year as the individual who saw the most people, sold the most tickets and enjoyed the festival events.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; brothers, Johnny and Pete; and nephew,
Ronnie Athanasiou.

Diamond is survived by his brother Riley Stephen Athanasiou; nephew John Paul Athanasiou and wife, Diane, and their two sons, Chris and Kevan, of Amarillo; nephew Stephen Athanasiou and wife, Lain, of La Marque; stepdaughter, Cheryl Morris and husband, Byron, of Galveston; stepson,Charles Meyer and wife, Brenda, of League City; grandchildren: Brad Coburn, of Livingston;Kristi Ritter, of Galveston; Richard Meyer; Michael Meyer; Charles Meyer; and Jam es Meyer, all of League City; 3 great grandchildren; one great-great- grandchiId (and two
on the way); numerous cousins in Houston; and several other nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive visitors after 5 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2006, at Malloy & Son
Funeral Home. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral service will be IO a.m., Friday, September 15, 2006, at the Assumption of the Virgin
Mary Greek Orthodox Church.

Entombment will follow the service at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Bogazis, Norris Cronovich, Clint Landrum, Leroy Naschke, Vasilis
Papavavasiliou, and Albert Redmond. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Miller, Ted Miller, Pete Poulos, Jimmy Stathakos, and Ted Waterman.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Clark and his team of professionals who provided exceptional care for Diamond.
