Doris (Peek) Horne Williams lived a full and vibrant life for over 92 years, leaving all that knew her a happier person for having had her in their lives. Doris passed away on October 23, 2011.
Doris was born in Atlanta, GA, on March 12, 1919 to the late Hobson Dewey Peek (7 May 1898 - 19 Dec 1977) and Mildred Frances (Clay) Peek (17 Jan 1898 - 22 Feb 1971).
She spent the remainder of her life in the Albany area where she raised her three daughters. She retired from the Dougherty County Tax Off after 27 years on Loyal Service. Doris was deeply devoted to her church, First United Methodist Church of Albany, of which she was a lifetime member. She involved in the First United Methodist Church Hawk Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Young at Heart, Crape Myrtle Chapter #163 Order of the Eastern Star and the Scottish Rite Ladies Auxiliary (Dougherty Lodge #591 F&AM Forget-Me-not Widows Club.
Doris was preceded in death by her daughters Loretta Horne Christofferson, Gayle Horne Young, her brother Wayne Peek.
She is survived by her daughters Carol Horne Shuffstall and her husband Richard of Etowah, NC, her sister Helen P. Loyless, Albany, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Visitation was Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Don Adams and Rev. Carrie Myers officiating. Interment was at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Memorials could be given to the First United Methodist Church, P O Box 448, Albany, GA 31702, or Scottish Rite Health Care of Atlanta, 1001 Johnson Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA 30342.
