Anna Elizabeth Duke was the daughter of John Sebastian Duke and Mariam Allred Duke.

This appears to be Ann, her parents and siblings: On the 1850 Wayne, Warren Co., Ohio census, I found shoemaker John Duke, 42, Virginia born; Catharine, 33, Pennsylvania; ANN E, 13, Virginia born; George W, 10, Ohio; Harriet E, 8, Ohio; Barbara E, 6, Ohio; John W, 3, Ohio and Emma J, 1/12, in Ohio. In 1860, her parents and siblings were in Jackson, Boone Co., Indiana.

On 2 Jan 1857, the State of Indiana, Montgomery County issued a marriage license for John S Strain and Ann E Duke, in Crawfordsville. They were married on 8 Jan 1857 and it was filed on 20 Mar 1858 (see photo).

On the 1860 Salem, Dent Co., MO census, I found carpenter John Strain, 24, born in Indiana, had $120 in real estate and $250 in personal property; Anne Strain, 24, Virginia; Wm E Strain, 3, Indiana; Mary Ellen Strain, 1 , Indiana and farmhand (John's brother) E F Strain, 22, born in Indiana, with $120 in real estate and $35 in personal property. They reside next to cabinet maker David Simmons, 31 and his family.

On the 1880 De Roane, Hempstead County, Arkansas census, I found carpenter John S Strain, age 45, born Indiana, with his wife Anna E., 45, Virginia; Sons: George, 18, Indiana; James, 15, Indiana; David, 7, Arkansas; Herman, 5, Arkansas and Joseph, 2, Arkansas born.

Her husband John died on 17 Dec 1881. Suspect she died soon after.

According to cousin Hattie, "Annie Laurie Strain, AKA Mrs. Alexr. H. Kelley of Laredo, Texas, .....reared the two Strain nephews Herman and Joe." Annie was the daughter of James Strain and Lucinda Simmons.

David A Strain, the son of John and Anna E Strain, was born on 9 Mar 1873 in De Roane, Hempstead Co., Arkansas. He died 30 Dec 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. Per Michigan Deaths, FS. He was bonded, licensed and married to Mrs. Onie Easley, all on 18 Jul 1906 in Gifford, Hot Spring Co., Arkansas. Rev. F T Heatley officiated. He is on the 1910 Perry, Arkansas and 1930 and 1940 Detroit census with his family. His wife is also called Leona and Ona.
