Daughter of Benjamin Yarbrough Winston and Martha J. Green Winston. Parents died in 1860 and 1870 respectively and are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis.

Moved from Virginia to Covington, Tipton, Tennessee around 1831 by ox-cart. Father is said to have run the 1st hotel in Covington. Latter the family moved to the Memphis area settling around Frayser Station.

First marriage to Mussenden Sloan Mathews (6-11-1815 to 8-6-1851) on 11-10-1842 in Tipton County Tennessee. Four children by this marriage: Adolphus M. (abt.1844), Virginia L. (1847), Benjamin A. (abt. 1846) and Charles R. (abt. 1850).

Married William Bigham on February 12, 1857, Shelby County Tennessee. Two children by this marriage: Robert G. (abt 1857) and William Mathews (1859).
